I started as a uni job in the summer seasons and have carried on from there. Polzeath has been the best fit for me, I love it here. My main job is organising the bar - ensuring it’s fully stocked, cashing up and obviously serving clients throughout the day. All the normal stuff and a little bit more on top!
I don’t do many breakfast shifts so I usually come in before lunch and help to tidy up and prepare for the rest of the day. Then it’s all about cracking on with the lunchtime service, helping to make sure all the customers have everything they need.
In the evening I stick to the bar. It gets very busy so there’s not a lot of chance to move off your post, we all have our roles, otherwise it disrupts other areas of the service. Naturally there's the odd occasion for sampling the produce - I can safely say the coffee, Crab Juice, and Cracking Crab Rose are all favourites.
The surf! I haven’t done as much surfing this year as usual as I went to New Zealand for a few months and when I got back I found it too cold, but maybe next week!
The environment at The Crab is also great as a place to work. I really enjoy working with all my team mates, and Luke and Laurence are very supportive; its one of the best places I have worked and where it really feels like everyone’s working together.
The monkfish!
The whole big family vibe, especially as lots of the team stay on the same campsite. There are familiar faces every year but also enough new faces as well. Everyone here is very welcoming.
Definitely. It’s made my life a lot easier as the bar, as it’s now about three times the size it was before, so you can easily work with three or four people at a time. Ice cream is also much more accessible now as well. The result is that service is a lot quicker and everyone is happier including the customers.
It’s a great place to work! As long as you’ve got energy and integrity, you will get on well. We all get on, there are no cliques and as long as you’re there to make friends you will love it. Just make sure you do it with a smile! I think all the people I work with would all say it’s the best place to work in Polzeath.
